Parque Arví: Nature Above Medellín
Parque Arví is the easiest nature escape from Medellín: a large forest reserve in the mountains, reached by the cable car that flies over the city. In under an hour you go from El Poblado's traffic to trails among the trees, with fresh air and quiet.
How to get there
The journey is part of the draw. Metro to Acevedo station, then metrocable line K to Santo Domingo, and finally line L crossing the mountain to Parque Arví. The view over the city from above is spectacular.
What to do
The trails
The park has several forest routes, from easy walks to longer hikes. Some you do on your own, others with a guide. It's the place to breathe and disconnect from the city.
The market
Near the cable-car arrival there's a market with local produce, crafts and street food. Good for a stop and to try something typical.
Nature and climate
You're at altitude: the air is cooler, often humid, with dense vegetation. A breath of oxygen after days in the city.
When to go
Best in the morning, with clearer skies and less chance of rain. Weather changes fast up high: bring a light jacket even if it's sunny in Medellín.
Practical tips
- Comfortable walking shoes.
- Light jacket or rain shell: it's cooler up top.
- Water and cash for the market.
- Leave early to enjoy the trails at a relaxed pace.
